Equipment stolen from Prince George’s County batting cage business
A business owner in Prince George’s County said a trailer containing $20,000 worth of baseball equipment was stolen from his batting cage business. FOX 5’s David Kaplan tells the story.
Capitol Building, Maryland – A business owner in Prince George’s County said a trailer containing $20,000 worth of baseball equipment was stolen from his batting cage business.
Andre Hockaday is renovating one of his two business locations, On Deck.
The trailer is parked in many places next to the building, in the 9000 block of Edgeworth Drive in Capitol Heights.
Hockaday told Fox 5 that he usually puts the safety pin in the trailer hitch, but not last Friday night, when the trailer was stolen about an hour after leaving the building on Friday night.
Turf, pitching machines, nets, baseballs, bats, and helmets are all equipment inside.
“I think I’ll start over,” Hockaday said.
The theft was caught on surveillance cameras.
It showed someone driving what appeared to be a dark-colored Dodge pickup truck parked next to the trailer, surrounded it with a piece of cloth, then attached the trailer to the truck and drove away.
He posted the video to social media for help, adding that few people knew there was a device in the trailer.
“I’m just waiting to see if anyone else knows about it. But I don’t know who it is, nobody knows so far,” Hockadi said.
Hockaday eventually called the Prince George’s County Sheriff’s Department, which received the report and is investigating.
Meanwhile, Hockaday is asking anyone who recognizes the person or the truck from surveillance video to reach out as he tries to figure out what’s going to happen next.
Because the truck and equipment are technically parked outside the property of the batting cage itself, insurance will not cover the damage, Hockaday said.
