Business: Greater Peoria Hispanic Chamber of Commerce

Peoria, IL (WMBD) — The mission of the Greater Peoria Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is to grow and grow in business, community and culture for Latinos.

The Chamber of Commerce has been rooted in the community for about four years. Chamber of Commerce President Jim Montelongo said their 20 members are strong and growing.

He said their members come from engineering, restaurants, real estate and more. As a foundation and advocate for Hispanic businesses, Montelongo says they work hard to help business owners succeed.

“I think we have a vision for where to move the conference hall, which encourages people who might want to start a business,” Montelongo said.

He said many of the owners are first generation. Montelongo says their board is made up of business-savvy people who can help their members understand any challenges facing starting or maintaining a successful business.

Despite being Hispanic-focused, Montelongo said anyone can become a member.

The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Peoria will host its inaugural Gala on Saturday, October 6th. 8. Jaime di Paulo, CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, will be the keynote speaker.

Montelongo said they will recognize the achievements of corporate members and the work they do in the community.

It will also be their biggest fundraiser of the year and will help the chamber invest in educational materials to help business owners learn how to run a business and be successful.

“We will invest in some training and educational materials for business owners so they can learn the basics of business. I really hope they can learn the basics of business. I really hope all of our members will be able to bring a a business plan so they can keep updating over the years,” Montelongo said.
