The annual Birmingham Bowl kicks off at Protective Stadium at 6.45pm today and local businesses in Upper Birmingham are bracing for a huge crowd. This is their second year hosting the event at Protective Stadium. Coastal Carolina and East Carolina fans will have the opportunity to watch their favorite teams at Protective Stadium in this year’s 16th Annual Ticketsmarster Birmingham Bowl. UAB student Branden Cornelius has been working for a local business in uptown Birmingham for over a year. Protective Stadium is really great for businesses, he said. It’s already a big city, like a hub. I study biomedical engineering. It’s at the center of medicine and it’s a new bustling energy that’s coming up, and this stage in particular is really driving it in the direction of the growth that we’re seeing,” Cornelius said. Cornelius said he plans to Come to the Birmingham bowl game and be a part of the atmosphere. Local coffee shops are getting their staff ready for the influx of tourists. It will be the first game between Coastal Carolina and East Carolina.
