The credit card company American Express estimates that for every dollar spent at a small business, an average of 68 cents stays in the business’ local community. American Express, founder of Small Business Saturday, also estimates that for every dollar spent at small businesses, local business activity increases by an additional 48 cents as employees and local businesses buy local goods and services. For the many mom-and-pop store owners still reeling from the economic fallout of the pandemic, they hope his holiday shopping season will provide a much-needed economic boost.

December 7, Southbury Chamber will host families looking for holiday fun and business professionals looking to socialize during the Wreath Fest at the Heritage, Hotel, Golf, Spa and Conference Center from 4-7 p.m., attendees There will be an opportunity to see over 50 wreaths decorated by local businesses and a chance to take one home. Additionally, there will be several larger wreaths worth up to $1,000, and individuals can enter to win prizes such as a Big Green Egg Grill from Chatfield’s True Value Hardware, a $1,000 Gift cards, and overnight accommodation and dining packages from the Heritage Hotel.
Event admission includes an all-you-can-eat pasta dinner with salad, cookies, hot chocolate, and cider; live music; a photo with Santa; and a chance to win an entry prize every 15 minutes. Our affiliate, Main Street Waterbury, is again hosting the Holiday Walk this December. 5-7 p.m. in Downtown Waterbury Residents and visitors are invited to get into the festive spirit to the music of Bravo Choir at 8 p.m. and enjoy a visit with Santa and various other family events. While visiting local businesses to jumpstart your gift-giving list, you can vote for your favorite holiday window shopping displays. You’ll also enjoy a selection of delicious snacks and festive drinks, festive lights on Waterbury Green, chances to win raffles and a street magic show by Cyril the Sorcerer. Come and show your support for our downtown businesses; we want to see you there. During holiday walks, maps will be provided to help guide your evening to participating sites.
