Elon Musk has posted a poll on Twitter asking users to vote on whether former US President Donald Trump, who was banned from the social media site by his previous owner, should be reinstated.
The Twitter boss captioned it: “Vox Populi, Vox Dei” — a Latin phrase that means “the voice of the people is the voice of God.”
Before he was about to buy Twitter, Mr Musk He said that if Trump took charge of the company, he would reverse the platform’s “stupid” ban on Trump.
“Permanent bans should be extremely rare and really reserved for bots or spam, scam accounts. I do think it would be incorrect to ban Donald Trump,” he said in May.
“I think it was a mistake because it alienated a large part of the country and didn’t end up causing Donald Trump to lose his voice.”
In January 2021, Trump supporters us capitol building resulting in several deaths.
The tech company said it made the decision after the Jan. 6 riots “due to the risk of further incitement to violence.”
Trump had more than 80 million followers on the platform at the time.
The billionaire Tesla owner asked the rest of Twitter’s staff, who write the software code, to report to the 10th floor of its San Francisco office at 2 p.m. local time on Saturday, according to an email seen by Reuters.
“If possible, I would appreciate it if you could fly to San Francisco to attend in person,” Mr. Musk was quoted as saying in the email, adding that he would be at the company’s headquarters until midnight and return Saturday morning.
Twitter mass layoffs
On Friday, hundreds of Twitter employees were estimated to have decided to leave the company after Mr. Musk’s Thursday deadline, with employees agreeing to longer, more intense work patterns or resigning.
The exodus added to the rapid change and chaos of Mr. Musk’s first three weeks as Twitter owner, during which time the company’s workforce has more than halved to about 3,700 in layoffs and other departures.
With a large number of Twitter employees now leaving, there has been speculation that the site will crash during the World Cup – one of the site’s busiest traffic events.

Social media expert Matt Navarra told the Pennsylvania News Agency that the likelihood of Twitter being shut down has “increased dramatically” in the past 24 hours due to the recent exodus.
He said he thought any imminent outage was unlikely because certain locks would prevent changes to the platform’s base code while Mr. Musk reorganized the company.
“With the code freeze in place, Twitter is currently on autopilot on its IT systems, a strategic move by Elon Musk to protect the stability of the platform as it charts its next steps,” Mr. Navarra said.
