Anna “Delvey” Sorokin, a con man who tricked Manhattan’s elite by posing as a German heiress, says she “got what I wanted” after she got out of prison.
In her first interview since her release, she told The New York Times that she was “really happy” to be released, adding that “there are no guarantees.”
The notorious socialite swindled banks and New York City celebrities to finance her jet-setting lifestyle for around $67 million (£51.5 million).

She was released from state prison in February 2021, but was quickly re-imprisoned after Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) took her into custody.
Sorokin, 31, was released on $10,000 bail on Friday.
She was placed under house arrest and banned from social media.
Sorokin told The New York Times that she was “really happy.”
She told the paper: “They refused bail before. It was an exercise in perseverance.
“A lot of immigration attorneys told me I would be deported to Mars before I left New York.”

Sorokin, who was born in what was then the Soviet Union, hoped to spend some time at the Big Apple while her immigration case made her way through the courts.
“I’m really, really happy. That’s exactly what I want. I just want more freedom in the end.”
Sorokin now lives in a one-bedroom apartment in the city’s East Village district.
When asked if the money for the rental apartment and the $10,000 bond belonged to her, she replied, “Yes.”
