Gillian Keegan’s Twitter Account Changes Picture to Elon Musk, Promotes Cryptocurrency Amid Apparent Hack | Political News

The Twitter account of the British education secretary appears to have been hacked, with his profile picture changed to that of Elon Musk and several posts promoting a cryptocurrency once backed by the billionaire.

While Gillian Keegan’s page still describes her as an MP for Chichester and secretary of state for education, and retains a banner image showing her constituency’s work, it has been thrown into disarray.

The account has responded to dozens of tweets promoting a fake event hosted by Musk’s company Twitter and Tesla, claiming that it will have “a special giveaway for all our fans and the crypto community.”

The link bears the tagline: “Elon Musk – Get Free DOGE, BTC, and ETC!”

This refers to Dogecoin, a cryptocurrency launched as a joke in 2013, But when Musk regularly praised it, its value soared more than 18,000% at one point.

Other tweets refer to anyone who owns the cryptocurrency as a “Dogecoin warrior fighting for the future.”

Based on the tweets, Ms Keegan’s account appears to have been hacked around 7.30pm on Christmas Day.

Keegan isn’t the first to get fouled by Twitter hack

This isn’t the first time high-profile accounts have been hacked and flooded with encrypted spam and images of Musk, british army fouled earlier this year.
