Gulf Coast Humane Society helps shelter pets in adoption drive

From October 1-8, the Humane Society of the Gulf Coast will provide a $50 reduced adoption fee for all animals that remain in the shelter for more than 60 days.

CHRISTIES, Texas — Somebody called Alan Holt because of an impending downpour for the Gulf Coast Humane Society — by adoption, of course.

Gulf Coast Humane Society will be one of more than 280 shelters across the country participating in BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty Shelters” campaign to help shelter pets find loving, permanent homes.

From October 1-8, the Humane Society of the Gulf Coast will provide a $50 reduced adoption fee for all animals that remain in the shelter for more than 60 days.

“It’s been a challenging year for our nation’s animal shelters,” said Cathy Bissell, founder of the BISSELL Pet Foundation. “The devastating increase in owner surrenders has resulted in thousands of socialized, home-trained and lead-trained pets desperate to find a home.”

BISSELL Pet Foundation’s “Empty Shelters” campaign is one of the largest funded adoption campaigns in the country, helping nearly 118,000 pets find forever homes since 2016.

While any and all interests are highly appreciated, the BISSELL Pet Foundation and the Gulf Coast Humane Society urge families to conduct a thorough study of the adoption process and potential pet needs.

Most importantly, adoption is a lifetime commitment.

“Even if people don’t end up adopting a pet, we still love that people come in and visit and want to introduce our organization to their friends and family!” said Jackie McCollough, Director of Marketing and Development.

Those interested in adopting a pet can find more information on the Gulf Coast Humane Society website.
