Common Man restaurant founder and owner Alex Ray leads a group of New Hampshire business owners taking a hands-on approach to helping those affected by the war in Ukraine. “We were in a warehouse in Demasc, and these were Christmas presents for the kids,” Ray said. He told Total Coverage in Maine that when the war started, he felt he had to do something and put his money where his mouth was. “We feel like we have an obligation as citizens of the world to come out and help these people,” said Susan Mathison. Mathison and Ray were interviewed by Maine’s Total Coverage in Poland, the country where they helped organize and distribute donate. They have been raising money for essentials like food and sleeping bags. Ray even donated $1 million from his company. Ray and Matheson traveled to Poland for the third time to help deliver donated items to an orphanage for Ukrainian children. They said they had visited several orphanages and delivered 18 tons of food. “I would say my impression is how brave these kids are to stand up and choose to stand with their country and smile bravely,” Matheson said. They’ve raised over $2 million since February, but their 2023 goal is $20 million. We need everyone’s help, but we’re amazed at the path we’re on,” Ray said.
