Shopkeepers look forward to Saturday’s small businesses

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) – It’s one of the busiest weekends of the year for shoppers. It’s also a key weekend for small retailers as they expect people in Weber County to gather and shop locally around Small Business Saturday.

Small Business Saturday is a celebration of supporting local small business purchases — not big box retailers.

A recent QuickBooks survey found that 80% of small businesses say the holiday season is more important to their overall financial health than last year.

“Kiki’s Snacks” in Laredo welcomed customers Saturday morning, hoping that many would spend big bucks there during this busy holiday shopping weekend.

Owner Anna Rivera said her small business relies on support from the community, especially for rare items.

Rivera went on to say that the store focuses on selling Korean and Japanese snacks and hopes to offer unique options for those looking to shop this holiday season.

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, when you support local businesses, your spending benefits your city and community through sales taxes.
