The closure earlier this fall brought a lot of emotion to current and former residents. Over the weekend, OBSERVER reported that Valvo’s candy and gift shop is seeing its final days in September.
Owner Elizabeth Valvo recently told OBSERVER that the closure is permanent and that the property at 1277 Central Avenue in Silver Creek will eventually be sold. Valverde, 88, made the announcement “with a heavy heart” And thank you for your support from all walks of life.
“I want to thank the wonderful customers, friends and family who have helped us along the way,” said Valverde. “I am so grateful to everyone who has helped support us.”
Once the news hits OBSERVER’s Facebook feed, thousands of people join in to reminisce or wish. The location is a landmark, known for its cement statues that are very familiar to those who shop and do business there.
“We’ve invested a lot in this business. We’ve all done it. We love it,” said Valverde.
A family’s dedication — and its long service spanning more than a century — will be missed.
