Spotify users reported a spike in service outages as Taylor Swift’s new album hit the platform this morning.

According to Downdetector, Midnight was released at 5am UK time, coinciding with a significant increase in problems with the streaming service.

Nearly 8,000 users documented issues with the app before and after the album’s release.

Fans also tweeted that it was difficult to use Spotify With new songs dropping.

Other major new albums may also contribute to demand, with Carly Rae Jepsen’s The Loneliest Time and Arctic Monkeys’ The Car also releasing this morning.

Spotify is out of the woods and the app works fine.

Sky News has contacted Spotify for comment on the reported outage.

midnight is fast‘s 10th studio album, the 32-year-old says Tells the story of ’13 sleepless nights’ in her life.

Its release follows a surprise announcement at the end of August, and is her first new release in two years.

Given the previous demand for the pop star’s work, Spotify probably should have known there was going to be trouble.

Swift’s final album, the 2021 re-recording of “Red” (Taylor version), broke the platform’s record for the most-played album by a female artist in a single day — with more than 90 million plays.

The previous record is also held by Swift for 2020 Folklore.

She also holds Spotify’s record for the most-played female artist in a single day at nearly 123 million, and is the most popular woman on the platform in 2021.
