
A construction worker drowned after falling from an offshore platform on the Texas Gulf Coast over the weekend.
San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar RiveraA construction worker drowned in Texas Bay Saturday, Oct. 1, after falling from an offshore platform, according to a Facebook post by San Patricio County Sheriff Oscar Rivera. Rivera noted that the man fell from the Kiewit Offshore Services platform.
Coast Guard officers in Corpus Christi responded to the call around 1:45 p.m. Construction workers wear manually inflatable life jackets as well as seat and tool belts. However, officials said the man did not resurface after falling into the water, according to the Charlotte Observer.
After a call, the Coast Guard, Corpus Christi Police Department, Ingleside Police Department, Texas Parks and Wildlife and a dive team from Aransas Pass were all looking for the man.The man’s body was found by the Aransas Pass Police Maritime Bureau around 5:30 p.m.
A Kiewit Offshore Services spokesman told the publication in an email that the worker was a scaffolding subcontractor. Kiewit has a 555-acre facility in Corpus Christi. The company specializes in the manufacture and integration of large and complex offshore projects, such as oil rigs.
“This news is devastating and our thoughts are with the subcontractor’s family, friends and colleagues,” Kiwitt said in an email to the Charlotte Observer. “Nothing is more important to Kiewit than safety. We are working with the authorities to investigate this incident and ensure that nothing like this happens again at KOS.”
Officials have not disclosed the identity of the man who fell from the platform.
