The Dental Hygiene Program at Del Mar College offers a variety of free services

Corpus Christi, TX — Del Mar College’s (DMC) oral hygiene program is offering ways to help Coastal Bend residents keep smiles brighter and wallets fuller.

The Dental Hygiene Program is free from now until mid-December.

The program offers a variety of services, including medical history review, blood pressure screening, oral exam, initial dental assessment, periodontal assessment, and oral hygiene education.

Residents also have access to oral cancer screenings, X-rays, fluoride treatment (if needed), selective polishing, conservative periodontal treatment, dental hygiene treatments, and dental sealants through the Dental Hygiene Program.

“The Dental Hygiene Clinic provides a win-win opportunity for Coastal Bend residents with the services available, as well as hands-on training for our dental hygiene students,” said Eva Sepulveda, Director of the Academy’s Dental Program.

“As a community service offered at no cost, our students are preparing for the workforce as dental hygiene professionals, while also meeting certain dental needs of patients who use the clinic,” Sepulveda said.

According to Del Mar officials, the clinic provides dental hygiene students with the hands-on experience and time needed to complete the program, and students who perform procedures are supervised by program faculty.

Patient care often requires more than one visit, and patient selection is based on the educational and clinical requirements of the dental hygiene student.

The DMC faculty will make the decision to accept the patient after a “qualified appointment.”

This facility is located in Room 125, Building 1, Health Sciences Building, Windward Campus, Del Mar College, 4101 Old Brownsville Road (78405).

Hours of operation are Monday and Tuesday 9am-noon and 1pm-4pm, and Wednesday 9am-noon, by appointment.
