
At least 5,021 people have now been confirmed dead after a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake rocked Turkey and Syria early Monday, shaking the region.

At least 20,534 people were reported injured, Oktay said.
So far 11,000 buildings have been reported damaged in Turkey, Orhan Tatar, an official with Turkey’s disaster management agency, said in an earlier televised briefing. He added that nearly 25,000 emergency personnel were working on the affected sites.
