Wine Away Review: Our Favorite Red Wine Stain Remover

As a cleaning expert, I usually steer people away from single-use products and toward cleaners and tools that can be used for multiple jobs. Investing in cleaning products that can perform multiple tasks is good for your wallet, good for your time and energy, good for your home, and good for the planet; when it comes to cleaning products, less is more.

But sometimes, a single-purpose product comes along that works so well that I can confidently recommend it to anyone and everyone. Wine Away is one of those products that I think deserves a place on your Thanksgiving table—or at least in your holiday cleaning arsenal.

Wine Away is a red wine stain remover that really works. As a bonus, Wine Away is also really good at removing other common holiday stains like cranberry and pomegranate.

Now, that preamble is a bit misleading because Wine Away isn’t really just about removing red wine stains – we’ll see what other uses I’ve discovered over the years, stick with me! — but especially when it comes to removing red wine stains, it’s one of the best products I’ve found.

While Wine Away works best on fresh wine spills, it can also be used on older, more established stains. Is the red wine spilled at last year’s Ugly Sweater Party still staining your favorite ugly sweater? Wine Away can freshen up that look, just in time for this year’s ugly sweater parties. “As with any stain,” says Wine Away President and CEO Staci Wanichek, “it’s best to treat it quickly, but if you can’t, that’s okay because Wine Away is good for both fresh and dry stains.”

But maybe you’re not a wine lover! I still think Wine Away has a place in your home for the holidays, and here’s why: I stumbled upon Wine Away as the ace in removing cranberry stains from fabrics.

Along with pomegranates, blueberries, turmeric, and red wine, cranberries have a reputation for being especially prone to staining. This reputation is earned! Cranberry is indeed a tough stain to remove, but Wine Away works really well to protect the family’s heirloom tablecloth from Thanksgiving spills and drips.

Wine Away can also be used to remove other tough stains. “Wine Away also works wonders on coffee, juice drinks, candy, red medicines, blood and even pet accidents,” says Wanichek.

The holiday season is all about eating, drinking and being merry – and gift-giving is a big part of the holiday cheer. However, finding the right thing can be tricky, which is why we spend a lot of time coming up with great gift ideas for everyone in your life.

Wine Away makes a great gift for the wine lover on your holiday shopping list, or as an addition to a wine gift. Wine Away makes a great hostess gift, and it also makes a great stocking stuffer—especially the small 2 oz bottle.

Buy three 2-ounce bottles of Wine Away as Christmas gifts, or to keep on hand when you need a small last-minute gift. For less than $7, you can get a gift that keeps giving year-round (or at least until wine season is over!).

Wanichek offers tips for effectively using Wine Away to remove red wine and other common holiday stains from carpet, upholstery, clothing, and tablecloths.

You can pick up this larger three-pack of 12-ounce bottles for just a few dollars more, and you’ll have a virtually unlimited supply of the good stuff.

To remove a red wine stain from carpet or upholstery, first blot the wine stain to absorb as much liquid as possible before starting the stain treatment. Then, spray the stain with Wine Away and let it sit for one to five minutes to penetrate the stain. Wipe the area with a light-colored cloth or paper towel until the stain disappears. Avoid rubbing or scrubbing the fibers, which can cause them to fray or pill.

To remove a red wine stain from clothing or tablecloths, saturate the stain with Wine Away, let it sit for one to five minutes, then wash the item according to the manufacturer’s directions.

Do you *really* like Wine Away? It doesn’t get much better than this whole gallon of stain-removing magic.

When it comes to cleaning up a large red wine stain, such as when an entire glass or bottle of wine is spilled, Wanichek says, “Go to the stain immediately and be patient. You may need additional applications, but slowly and steadily Win the Wine Away competition.”

One final tip: “If the stain turns blue or purple, don’t panic,” says Wanichek. “It means Wine Away is working.”
